Homaira Kabir - Goodbye Perfect

interview

Q: Why is your book called Goodbye, Perfect?

A: I love this question! It’s called Goodbye, Perfect because the book is about saying goodbye to an identity and not a behavior, although the behaviors usually result from the identity. It’s about getting to the root cause and building an identity that reflects our true power. That’s the only way we can discern when certain behaviors serve us without being hooked by them.

Q: How will the book help a reader? What is the main message of the book?

A: The journey of Goodbye, Perfect is a journey of growth and flourishing. It’s about embracing our authentic expression and living in alignment with who we are and what we value. This is not easy in a world that bombards us with expectations and rewards us for recreating ourselves in its image. Goodbye, Perfect will give readers the courage to do so, and to experience the fulfillment that comes with it.

Q: What is the role of confidence?

A: The funny thing is I never set out to study confidence when I did my postgraduate research. I set out to study women’s flourishing. But it became clear very early on that what gets in the way of women’s flourishing is a type of high confidence Fragile Confidence. It’s confidence that comes from achieving externally valued goals because of a deep sense of lack or unworthiness. Optimal confidence, on the other hand, does lead to flourishing. And so the book offers a science backed shift from fragile to optimal.

Q: Is this book for working women only?

A: It’s for everyone who recognizes that without inner work, we cannot reach the highest levels of self-actualization. You see, life scars each one of us—and some more than others. We all have inner repair work to do; it’s the reality of our bio-psycho-social makeup as a human being. The journey in is always the journey up.
